Episode 3 · Gwen, Joey, Mary
Rescuers pull Rory from a cliffside tree with a broken arm and hoist up a badly injured Joey. As paramedics attend to him, Joey repeatedly mutters to save Rory first. Onlookers notice and murmur about Joey ignoring his wife Gwen. Rory insists they are only friends. Gwen recalls Rory's manipulative visits and calls from her past life. Near the ambulance, Gwen answers a call from Mary and tells her how Joey fell.
Rescuers find Rory caught in a tree down the cliffside with a broken arm. They bring her up first. Then the rescue team hauls a critically injured Joey up the rocks on a rescue stretcher.
Joey lies on the stretcher and begs responders to help Rory first. Nearby tourists whisper among themselves about him ignoring Gwen. Rory gets strapped to her stretcher and tells the crowd that she and Joey are only childhood friends.
Gwen remembers Rory from her earlier life. Rory constantly called Joey on the phone, showed up at their home in sleepwear, and pretended to be innocent while telling Gwen that Joey actually loved her the most.
The paramedics lift Joey into the back of an ambulance on the mountain highway. Gwen's phone rings with an incoming call from Joey's mother, Mary. Gwen answers and tells Mary that Joey fell off the cliff while trying to save Rory.
“Rory… Save Rory first…”
“His wife's right there, and he's calling someone else's name?”
“No, that's not it. Joey and I grew up together. We're just friends.”
“Mom, Joey fell off trying to save Rory.”
Gwen delivers the news about Joey's plunge directly to Mary on the highway. Hearing that her son fell while trying to rescue Rory, Mary breaks down into a shrill wail over the phone. How will Mary react toward Gwen and Rory once they all reach the emergency room at the hospital?
