Astrid chases the prisoner wagons down a muddy road with her two children. She begs a scarred Volgrim soldier to release Ivar. The soldier confirms Ivar was marched north to the Beast Wars and threatens Leif violently.
Astrid begs for mercy, explaining that her family will starve and cannot pay House Volgrim without Ivar. Leif lashes out at the guard. The soldier draws his sword and swears to execute them if they follow.
“Stop shouting his name, girl. Orm Volgrim took him. He's gone to the Beast Wars, child.”
“Leif... They took your father.”
“Follow us one step further, and I'll kill every last one of you. The boy, the girl, you last, so you can watch.”
The scarred guard holds his drawn blade over Astrid and her children on the muddy road. He orders them to stop pursuing the convoy under threat of death. Astrid and the children stand helpless as the cages roll away. How will Astrid keep Leif and Runa alive now that House Volgrim has taken their provider?
