In the hospital room, Sophia holds her bleeding arm and warns Charlotte that James will punish her. Charlotte strikes Sophia across the cheek. A flashback shows past moments where James whipped Sophia with a belt and hit her to protect Ella. Back in the room, Ella boasts that James obeys Charlotte and will give her the fortune. Sophia defends James, but Charlotte's Mother slams Sophia's head into the mattress. James opens the door and catches them.

Sophia remembers James carrying her out of the burning house and insists her father has changed. Furious at her defiance, Charlotte's Mother grabs Sophia by the head. She shoves and slams Sophia down hard onto the hospital bed.

James suddenly pushes the hospital room door open. He freezes as he sees Charlotte's Mother holding Sophia down on the mattress. James looks at Charlotte, Ella, and Charlotte's Mother, then angrily demands to know what they are doing.
