Episode 4 · Lyra, Rory, Dorian
Lyra draws a wooden spike from Rory's mouth in front of the butler. Free from pain, the infant dragon leaps into her arms. The nanny maid steps forward, but Rory burns her hand with a blast of flame. Lyra touches the child's back and hears his thoughts about a tight vest crushing his wings. She grabs shears to slice it open, but the nanny seizes her arm and denounces her to Dorian.
Lyra reaches into Rory's mouth and extracts a long wooden spike while the horned butler watches in surprise. The baby stops crying immediately. Lyra holds up the splinter, giving the child space to breathe freely in the hall.
Rory celebrates the sudden relief from his tooth pain and calls Lyra an angel. The dragon hatchling jumps straight into her arms for a huge embrace, clinging tightly to the human woman who just helped him in the great hall.
The nanny maid attempts to step close and take Rory back, but the hatchling shoots fire directly at her hand. She recoils in fear and pain, shouting to the room that the young lord is still gripped by madness.
Lyra checks Rory's back with her hands to investigate his distress. Telepathic cries reach her ears as the infant complains about his garment. Rory's inner voice tells her that the stiff vest is severely pinching and crushing his small wings.
Lyra picks up shears to slice away the tight vest and free the hatchling's wings. The nanny maid grabs Lyra's wrist to block her, shouting at Dorian that Lyra is an insolent beggar trying to ruin the Obsidian family line.
“YAY! It doesn't hurt! Pretty lady, you're a fairy angel! Hug me! Big big hug!”
“Wahhh, my mouth feels better, but my wings hurt so bad! This stupid vest is pinching my wings off!”
“He isn't mad! This vest is choking his wings! How could you shackle a baby like this?”
“Filthy beggar! This vest was made by Master Tailors for the Dowager Lady! My Sovereign, she is trying to drive a wedge into the Obsidian lineage!”
The nanny maid grips Lyra's wrist and appeals directly to Dorian, accusing Lyra of defiling a royal garment and dividing the Obsidian household. Lyra stands with shears in hand while Rory whimpers against her chest. Will Dorian strike Lyra down for ruining the vest, or will the Sovereign listen to her explanation and let her free Rory's wings?
