Episode 5 · 20 episodes · Taylor, Ethan, Lexi
Taylor dials her parents to deliver two major updates. She discloses that Ethan and Lexi are dating, and she shares her acceptance to study physics at MIT. Enraged by the news, her father decides to stop paying Lexi's college tuition. A flashback recounts how Taylor persuaded her parents to support Lexi years ago. Out on the street, Taylor books a ride to the airport and prepares to fly home.
Taylor talks to her parents on the phone from a New York street. She shares her admission to MIT for physics and exposes Ethan's relationship with Lexi. Her father reacts with anger and decides to halt funding Lexi's tuition.
A flashback revisits ninth grade, when Lexi's divorced parents abandon her. Taylor asks her wealthy parents for help. She convinces them to cover Lexi's private school fees and pay her college bills at Columbia.
Standing alone on the New York sidewalk, Taylor ponders how Lexi turned against her after years of financial support. She opens her phone, requests an Uber ride to JFK Airport, and enters the car to leave the city.
“Lexi and Ethan are together.”
“If this is how she's going to treat you, we are done being her ATM next semester.”
“Taylor, I will never forget what your family has done for me. When I graduate and land something on Wall Street, I'll pay back every cent with interest.”
Taylor gets into an Uber headed for JFK Airport, turning her back on New York. Her father has cut off Lexi's funding, and Taylor is ready to start over at MIT. Will Ethan and Lexi realize Taylor discovered their secret, or will they continue their relationship unaware that Lexi's financial support is gone?
