Episode 2 · Lily Hopps, Helen Hopps, Rosie
Lily arrives outside a lavish hotel wearing an old jacket and sneaks around to the back. Beneath a balcony, she overhears Martin Hopps and Helen Hopps talking. Helen admits they faked poverty and drugged Lily's milk so she would miss an exam for Rosie's benefit. Lily remembers falling asleep on test day. As Martin voices his fears, a transfer notification appears on Lily's phone.
Lily walks up to a grand hotel where rich guests gather. She wears a worn jacket and feels out of place among the crowd. Instead of heading through the front doors, she slips quietly around toward the back entrance.
Lily stands near a pillar and listens to Martin Hopps and Helen Hopps on an upper terrace. Helen explains that Rosie's late mother saved her life. She states they feigned poverty and spiked Lily's milk with sleeping pills before an exam.
A flashback reveals Lily sitting at her desk, studying day and night for her big test. On the morning of the exam, she wakes up late because of the drugged milk. Officials turn her away at the door.
Outside the hotel, Martin Hopps tells his wife that their daughter will despise them if she learns the truth. Hidden below, Lily cries silently. Suddenly, a screen alert indicates money has been transferred to her account.
“How long are you going to keep this from Lily?”
“All these years we pretended to be poor, we even put sleeping pills in Lily's milk before her exam, wasn't all of that for Rosie?”
“If Lily ever finds out, she's gonna hate us.”
Lily hides behind the exterior pillar in tears after learning her own parents ruined her exam chances on purpose. She watches an incoming transfer alert appear across her mobile screen. Will Lily confront Helen and Martin right there at the hotel, or will she quietly look for a way to get even?
