A violent gale breaks into the tower, and Kaelen lands to demand why she plans to flee. Two months earlier, Kaelen saved Evelyn from a Thunder Phoenix, leaving her unaware that her lessons bound them as mates.

Magnus appears via a magical crystal projection in the middle of the night. Terrified, he points out the black horns and scales on Kaelen, revealing that Evelyn's subject is an ancient Abyssal Black Dragon royal.

A fierce tempest strikes the observation tower, tearing the doors apart. Kaelen drops onto the stone floor before Evelyn and directly asks why she plans to run after promising to become his bride.

Isolated in her work, Evelyn watches Kaelen deliver dead prey and cores to her terrace every day. Other Skywings take his leftovers to court partners, but Kaelen sits alone on the high ramparts and avoids every dance.
