Karen scavenges scrap in the lower district when an escape pod crashes nearby. Inside, he discovers a wounded girl with a rare living magic crystal embedded in her chest. Cyborg hounds arrive under shoot-to-kill orders. Karen ruptures a steam pipe for cover and carries the girl into underground sewers.
