Story so far

Court drama usually belongs to delicate figures whispering behind silk fans. This story strips that away immediately. Mara Ashford enters the royal hall built like a frontline soldier, sneezes so hard she rattles the chandeliers, and gets picked by the monarch as a political shield. The court laughs at her frame, yet she cares very little about their mockery.

The central dynamic does not hinge on royal romance. It hinges on mutual utility and hidden connections. Alpha King Adrian Hale selects Mara because her presence shocks his court and seals a vital grain treaty with her father. He sends her away to a decaying wing of the palace to keep rival packs at bay. Mara takes the insult and turns it into an allotment, planting radishes and putting discarded servants to work.

Behind this royal contract lies a quiet secret. Mara already trades letters and dried meat with Garrett, the battle-hardened Gamma stationed on the northern frontier. Garrett admires the physical power that the rest of the nobility despises. While Adrian plays subtle games over stone chessboards, Mara's loyalty leans toward the northern border.
