Who is who in The Beast and the Rose in the Moonlight, and how they are connected.
Lord Lucas
Cursed territorial lord
Lucas carries werewolf blood from a bargain with an evil god. He spends ten years in chains to avoid slaughtering his people. Gruff and guarded, he initially brands Selena with a life-and-death bond. When his scheming uncle poisons his medicine and burns Selena at the stake, Lucas abandons his control to protect her.
Selena
Fugitive witch and herbalist
Targeted by royal witch hunters, Selena uses nature potions and druid lore to stay alive. She treats Lucas to win her freedom, but genuine concern takes over. She risks her life harvesting rare flowers, cuts her own skin to perform ancient blood covenants, and absorbs toxic venom to save him from death.
Mordred
Usurping royal regent
Lucas's ambitious uncle operates as Lord Regent while secretly serving an evil god. He aims to eliminate Lucas and claim the throne permanently. Mordred orchestrates church raids, supplies frenzy venom to poison his nephew, and demands Selena burn at the stake to push Lucas into an uncontrollable werewolf rampage.
Story so far
Most fantasy romances trade on gentle misunderstandings, but The Beast and the Rose in the Moonlight operates on brute survival and leveraged control. Lord Lucas spent a decade locked away in chains, hiding his werewolf curse from the world. When Selena flees witch hunters and stumbles into his dungeon, neither expects an alliance. Lucas initially threatens to kill her, brands her neck with a magical blood bond, and treats her as an apothecary tool. Power in this castle begins strictly as coercion.
Selena refuses to play a passive victim. She risks her life in the mist-choked woods to harvest Dream Flowers because curing Lucas is her only route to freedom. Yet every attempt to stabilize his curse brings them closer to total ruin. His uncle Mordred uses church fanaticism to mask a naked bid for the throne, orchestrating a coordinated purge while slipping frenzy venom into Lucas's medicine. The story strips away romantic pretension: Lucas and Selena are two outcasts backed into a stone corner, forced to pool their wounds against an encroaching army.
The emotional pivot arrives when duty morphs into sacrifice. Selena uses forbidden forest blood magic, burning through her own life force to purge the venom boiling in his veins. Lucas locks her away not out of cruelty, but to keep her safe from the coming slaughter. When church warriors drag her to the stake and set the wood ablaze, Lucas shatters his own restraint. The show is sharp, unforgiving, and relentless in testing how much pain each character will endure before breaking their moral boundaries.
The Beast and the Rose in the Moonlight episode guide
EP 1: Chamber of Chains
Witch hunters corner Selene in the woods. She blinds their leader with purple powder and escapes into an isolated castle. Exploring the dungeon, she encounters a monstrous chained werewolf. The beast charges, hits the chain boundary, and collapses into a wounded man with wolf ears named Lord Lucas.
EP 2: The Wolf Sigil
Lucas threatens to murder Selena to protect his secret. She hurls a green herbal potion at his chest to halt his transformation. Lucas identifies her witch mark, brands her neck with a red wolf sigil, and demands a cure before fainting from heavy blood loss.
EP 3: The Dream Flower
Selena treats Lucas's injuries in his bedchamber, wanting only to break their bond and leave. Lacking a vital ingredient for his cure, she ventures into the fog-laden forest to pick a Dream Flower. Hunters track her footprints and trap her inside a dead-end cave with torches drawn.
EP 4: Poison in the Cup
Lucas slaughters the hunters in half-beast form and orders Selena never to leave his side. Meanwhile, Mordred intercepts a message confirming a witch is calming Lucas's curse. Mordred hands frenzy venom to his cloaked henchman, plotting to drive his nephew berserk before the hunters arrive.
EP 5: A Moment of Peace
A fanatical bishop rallies church warriors in the city square, preparing to march on the forest castle. Inside the stronghold, Selena brews a gentler draught for Lucas. He confesses his terror of tearing innocent villagers apart. She promises he will not face the curse alone, and they kiss.
EP 6: Locked in the Dark
Guards warn that the holy army will arrive within three days. To keep Selena safe, Lucas forces her into a fortified secret room. Facing the impending full moon, Lucas slashes his wrists to suppress the raging beast, while an infiltrator slips lethal black liquid into his medicine bowl.
EP 7: Boiling Blood
A guard brings Lucas the poisoned inhibitor under Selena's name. Lucas drinks it, and the concoction boils his veins, causing him to vomit blood. Trapped across the castle, Selena feels her branded neck burn violently from their soul contract. She seizes a hammer and attacks the locked door.
EP 8: The Blood Covenant
Battering rams shatter the castle gates as Mordred and the bishop storm the courtyard. In the dungeon, a feral Lucas accidentally claws Selena's arm. Recognizing her scent, he recoils in horror. Selena bites her finger, draws a glowing pentagram on stone, and binds their souls with forest blood magic.
EP 9: The Life Array
Mordred and holy soldiers butcher the guards and descend into the dungeon. Selena feeds her blood to Lucas, using an ancient array to absorb the venom at the cost of her own vitality. Lucas regains his human form, only for Mordred and the bishop to blast the door open.
EP 10: The Pyre and the Beast
Mordred manipulates the bishop into condemning Selena to the pyre. Soldiers bind her to a wooden stake in the courtyard while restraining Lucas. Selena tells him to resist the beast and whispers her love as flames rise. Enraged by her burning, Lucas snaps his bindings and transforms completely.
